Senior Copywriter- McCann Health

As a Senior Copywriter (Sr CW), you should have experience working as a Copywriter in preparation to take on a higher level of brand responsibility. You will be expected to manage the day-to-day copy responsibilities of a brand with support from a Copy Supervisor or above. You will attend internal status meetings, project kick-offs, and become responsible for ensuring all projects are completed on time, with accuracy, and in accordance with the project brief. You will further develop a collaborative working relationship with copy, account, editorial, digital, and strategy to create compelling work. Over time, you should carry the skills to present manuscripts first internally, and then to clients while referencing the brand DNA, personality, and strategy and project brief. You will also will begin to attend MLR meetings to support and defend work. You will begin to play a bigger part in the creation and realization of the creative product.

  • Work closely with senior-level copywriters to develop and refine messaging and come up with creative “big ideas”
  • Foster a collaborative working environment among all team members and departments
  • Build a thorough understanding of the work you’re assigned to including the data/science as well as legal, medical and regulatory guidelines
  • Comb through new data for undiscovered content
  • Proactively research new creative ideas in order to keep things fresh
  • Learn how to apply innovative solutions to adhere to timelines
  • Serve as a dependable copy resource that can be called upon (internally first, and then with clients) to speak to the brand from a creative perspective
  • Learn about campaign development and execution
  • Take feedback and help find creative solutions to copy challenges
  • Brainstorm on creative ideas and tactics
  • Contribute in meetings and brainstorming sessions
  • Seek out creative opportunities to concept or work on new business pitches
  • Learn what makes creative great
  • Represent the copy team at internal team meetings and report back to the extended copy team
  • Represent the copy team during MLR discussions to ensure account and clients have a dependable copy resource
  • Ask direct and relevant questions pertaining to timing, content, or creative direction
  • Start to establish client relationships and begin to present day-to-day creative work to clients
  • Take responsibility for the development of copy projects from start to completion while adhering to timelines and budgeted hours, all while keeping your supervisor aware
  • Aid in facilitating senior-level creatives work by helping to manage copy routing and junior team members
  • May begin to oversee Associate Copywriters and Copywriters
  • Interact with clients, remote and in-person
  • Begin to watch market research
  • Complete timesheets accurately and in a timely fashion
    • Completed Bachelor’s Degree in English, Advertising or a related field
    • At least three years of experience in a Copywriter role, preferably within an agency
    • At least one year of pharmaceutical copywriting experience
    • A compelling portfolio included with your application (can be website, file sharing link or PDF attachment)
    • Understand how to create a basic manuscript for print or digital projects
    • Ability to manage projects with decreasing supervision
    • Possess a strong understanding of internal agency processes
    • Able to communicate clearly, directly and professionally
    • Autonomous, while also knowing when and how to raise questions or issues to your manager
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • A confident nature, not afraid to suggest new ideas
    • Continuously seek opportunities to gain additional creative experience and exposure to more senior agency personnel
    • Some travel may be required
