The RoleAs a Proofpoint Sr. Threat Intelligence Researcher, you will work daily to surface interesting intelligence, write deliverables and documents, and publish those to a variety of audiences. Youll work as part of a team of dynamic and creative threat researchers focused on finding malware, credential phishing, and other threats and understanding how they work to provide updates on the latest threats to our customers and the community. Youll produce secondary and primary finished research deliverables about the variety of threats on the threat landscape.The successful candidate will hold a pioneering role in the Proofpoint threat research team focusing on creating strategy and finished releases for the Proofpoint Threat Intelligence Program.Youll be a part of a global team of dynamic and creative threat researchers and focus on creating finished threat intelligence assets for publication to customers and the threat intelligence community. As a writer, this candidate knows what to write, when to write it and how to write it.This role is responsible for both internal and external customer-facing deliverables. This role will not only facilitate publishing of threat research and intelligence by a team of researchers, but catalog and archive that intelligence for a variety of uses, shepherding the program and playing a vital role in the design of the Proofpoint threat intelligence strategy.Your day-to-day
  • Threat hunt in Proofpoint datafor intelligence publication possibilities
  • Create intelligence postings, blogs, briefings and other materials based on threat data in the wild
  • Design strategy around editorial content calendar, largeresearch products and finished intelligence products
  • Work with researchers to facilitate publishing of threatintelligenceresearch and reports
  • Edit, review and shepherd threat intelligence publications from a largeteam of researchers
  • Manage the collections and processing of intelligence from different data sources
  • Organize a variety of technical indicators, intelligence reports, and briefings
  • Develop workflows for intelligence collection from Proofpoint Data, open source, closed forum, the security community, and proprietary data feeds
  • Contribute in the development, revision, and maintenance of the Proofpoint Threat Intelligence Archive
  • Investigate and publish research results on threats targeting specific verticals or geographies
  • Investigate and publish research results on malware families, malware variants, and emerging malware
  • Support the threat intelligence planning for Proofpoint customers and internal stakeholders
  • Provide project management for minor projects and initiatives as it pertains to threat intelligence gathering and publishing
  • Use excellent analytical skills to work in a diverse team environment, exchanging ideas and data with developers, support, product managers, and customers
  • Work effectively as part of a remote team using chat, video chat and conference calls
What you bring to the team
  • Experience in operational threat research or threat intelligence
  • Excellent writing ability for moderately to highlytechnical audiences
  • A well-rounded understanding of the malware and information security threat intelligence landscape. You should love this field and have a passion for learning
  • Deep knowledge of the threat landscape and ability to brief or discuss it with avarietyof audiences
  • A passion for surfacing threats, understanding them and communicating them in written form
  • Ability to bring the best out of fellow researchers and act as subject matter expert on publishing finished intelligence reporting
  • Stellar organizational skills arounddocumentation and deliverables
  • No fear of enabling sales teams, working with marketing or bringing new ideas to the table
  • An understanding of how threat intelligence lends value to our customers, products and the informationsecuritycommunity
  • Experience making things happen in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • 3+ years of relevant security or threat intelligence experience
  • A deep understanding and up-to-datehandle on the evolving threat landscape, giving briefings to customers, prospects and internal groups to spread threat intelligence
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of different types of threat actors, attack vectors, tools, and tactics, and an ability to map that knowledge to priority intelligence requirements
  • Experience collecting data from different sources, sanitizing and parsing that data
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments that demands timely collection, polish, and production of finished threat intelligence
  • Experience with or willingness to learn using APIs and basic scripting languages
  • Experience with or willingness to learn SQL style queries, regular expressions search, MongoDB, AWS Athena

Nice to have
  • Familiarity andunderstandingof distributingthreat intelligence information via social media channels
  • Previousexperience working with media and public relations
  • Experience working remotely for a large information security vendor
  • Experiencewithmalware analysis
