Technical Writer


Data Center Global Services (DCGS) is looking for a Seattle-based technical writer to develop process documentation, create conceptual information, and step-by-step procedures. This includes gathering customer requirements, understanding the business needs, and designing documentation that meets them.

The ideal candidate shows serious obsession for customers. They have broad experience working on global, cross-functional content programs, and they have team leadership, program management, or project management experience. This person also has excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated leadership in delivering business results while working in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment. They have strong data analytics skills, and are comfortable working with Excel to identify trends and insights.

DCGS is responsible for building and maintaining the electrical plants, cooling plants, and physical spaces that support Amazons servers. The technical writing team plays a vital role in keeping data centers up and running by making sure the methods and procedures that engineers and technicians follow are clearly and completely described and steps are easy to follow.

Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver high-quality operations, process, and procedure documentation to engineers, electricians, and mechanics
* Develop and run comprehensive program plans for long term programs and drive execution according to the plans.
* Gain support for recommended programs using strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
* Collaborate with customers at all levels to gather requirements and feedback, define objectives and deliver results.
* Prioritize effectively and communicate clearly across all levels of the organization.
* Partner with your program sponsors to define program strategy and key performance indicators.
* Build and maintain documentation deliverables.
* Travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related field.
* A minimum of three years in a technical writing role.
* Experience writing and editing technical documentation for an engineering community.



Preferred Qualifications

*Experience working in a data center, networking, or manufacturing environment.
* Experience writing documentation related to infrastructure, mechanical, or electrical systems.
* Experience working with remote teams and an international audience.
* Strong critical thinking skills.
* Strong interpersonal communication skills.
* Experience owning and implementing programs related to online content strategy, content delivery tools, content taxonomy and classification, and/or the user experience with content.
* Meets/exceeds Amazons functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
* Meets/exceeds Amazons leadership principles requirements for this role.
