The Opportunity Agenda seeks a part-time Social Media Intern for its New York office. The position will be remote. The Opportunity Agenda is a social justice communication lab that works to advance the impact of the social justice community. We do this by shaping compelling narratives and messages, building the communication capacity of leaders through training and resources, and engaging with artists, creatives, and culture makers as powerful storytellers to shift the public discourse

Working under the supervision of the Digital Communications Manager, and in coordination with other Editorial and Communications staff, the intern will develop and distribute text and video-based content, monitor social media channels and support the organization’s online communications.

The responsibilities of the intern include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist with identifying, designing, and executing social media campaigns;
  • Create/find and post content to The Opportunity Agenda’s social media channels;
  • Engage and uplift partner content and events;
  • Interact with followers, partners and partner organizations, and others.
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns.
  • Support live and online events.
This intern position offers exposure to a range of non-profit activities (including development, research, and events), and will also work collaboratively with staff in our communications and creative departments. The internship will be performed remotely, 15-20 hours each week for 6 weeks with an initial orientation, on-going supervision, and a final evaluation of the experience.

  • Attending college/graduate school or recently graduated and pursuing a career in social justice.
  • Experience with the major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics software including Facebook Insights, Instagram Insights, Twitter Analytics, and Google Analytics to track audience engagement and campaign performance.
  • Experience with content management systems, word processor applications and image/video editing software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • A strong desire to work in the non-profit field
  • Experience working in a professional environment
  • Creative, analytical, organizational, and general office skills
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable taking initiative
  • Detail-oriented, energetic, and quick learner possessing writing, editing, research and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in English
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • A sense of humor and enthusiasm for our work and mission

$15/hour. School credit or stipend can also be arranged, though all stipends will be paid directly to your school.
