College Organizer

Resource Generation (RG) is recruiting for a full-time College Organizer who will organize undergraduate students with wealth and class privilege across the U.S. to work toward the equitable distribution of wealth, land, and power.

Resource Generation ( is a national non-profit organization mobilizing young people (age 18-35) with access to wealth and class privilege in the U.S. to become transformative leaders working towards the equitable distribution of wealth, land and power. The broader Resource Generation community includes people of all ages and class backgrounds who support the role that young people with wealth play in social change. RG has 18 chapters in cities around the U.S., and our chapters engage in base-building, political education programming, running giving circles, engaging in local and national campaigns, and building local organizational relationships.

The RG staff is a multi-class and multi-racial team. We especially encourage people of color and people from poor and working-class backgrounds to apply.

The ideal candidate is a passionate community organizer who excels at building relationships, is deeply committed to economic and racial justice, is passionate about transformative fundraising, and can excellently manage multiple projects and timelines. This position will support student leaders to build a multiracial base of students with wealth and class privilege, develop anti-racist and anti-classist programming, mobilize resources for social justice movements, and organize others to participate in on and off campus campaigns for structural change. RG's College Organizer will also manage and continue to develop our Student Organizing Fellowship, now entering its second year.

RG's College Organizing programs and strategy are in a relatively early phase of development, and this position will play a key role in leveling up those programs and strategies. Recent RG college programming has engaged students from 19 colleges and universities across the U.S., with a handful of more formal campus chapters in formation. Due to the COVID pandemic, there is a lot of uncertainty heading into the 2020-2021 school year. Who will be back on campus and who won't? For how long? How will that impact student organizing? A strong candidate will need to be highly adaptive, comfortable translating in-person tactics to virtual ones, and able to offer steady leadership during an emergent time in RG's college organizing and a time of uncertainty for colleges and in the world.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Student Organizing Fellowship program & coach 3-5 Fellows (35%)
    • Continue to lead and develop Student Organizing Fellowship program heading into its second year – oversee design, assessment, outreach & application process
    • Supervise 3-5 Student Organizing Fellows, helping them troubleshoot, support other student leaders, and lead special projects to advance RG's overall college organizing
    • Facilitate biweekly cohort meeting with Fellows
    • Own leadership development of Fellows: solicit input on and develop trainings to support their growth as organizers and to fit the needs of current campus chapters
  • Develop college organizing strategies, implement systems, and ensure integration with RG national organizing team goals & priorities (35%)
    • Manage college organizing committee made up of current students, alumni, and staff/org partners
    • Ensure RG organizing team goals are integrated in a campus setting (ex: membership & RG Giving Pledge drives; national campaigns; multiracial base-building and POC organizing)
    • Develop unique-to-college strategies & tactics in collaboration with college organizing committee and fellows – including digital organizing & social media
    • Bring back learnings and key tactics and strategies from college context to apply more broadly in RG's overall organizing and non-college chapters
    • Develop alumni organizing strategies and framework for on & off campus campaign work
    • Develop better college & alumni data and tracking systems, strongly collaborating with Database and Digital Engagement Manager & Membership Director
  • Build partnerships with key student organizations and campus staff (15%)
    • Build and deepen partnerships with first-generation low-income orgs toward cross-class movement building goals
    • Build and deepen partnerships with identity/affinity based orgs toward multiracial base-building goals (ex: black student unions, other BIPOC student groups)
    • Develop relationships with campaign-based orgs (on and off campus) in areas with strong college presence and/or active partnerships
    • Respond to inquiries from potential partner organizations and represent RG's college organizing work in media and communications
  • Contribute to org-wide priorities & special projects (15%)
    • Responsible for elements of program planning and outreach for our National Retreats - including Making Money Make Change, Transforming Philanthropy, and the Transformative Leadership Institute
    • Responsible for meeting individual fundraising goal. Manage individual major donor list and consistently develop members to be major donors, pushing members to give more boldly to movements through our Giving Pledge.
    • Responsible for owning the accuracy and regular input of data, as well as core administrative functions such as uploading and tagging receipts for expenses and filling out timesheets.
    • Pitch in on other priority and emergent projects as needed

Core qualifications and required skills

  • Is a relationship-oriented organizer with experience and analysis on working across race, class, gender, and other differences. Has demonstrated at least 2 years of experience (paid or unpaid) developing leaders and mobilizing a base toward collective goals. Ideally has experience organizing students and/or in a college setting.
  • Desire to do transformative organizing of a multiracial base of young wealthy people. Has a demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice. Believes in the stake young wealthy folks have in collective liberation, and the possibility and necessity of cross-class and multiracial movement building. Commitment to own transformation & healing from oppressive systems.
  • Skilled supervisor, team leader, and team member. Experience building teams, supporting a group in collective strategy and decision making, and offering feedback to support team members' growth. Strong communications skills and a desire to constructively work through conflict.
  • Self-directed and able to work remotely. Persistent, creative, and solutions-oriented. Can work-plan effectively to meet goals, communicate in a timely and responsive way, and can spend many hours a day on video calls and on a computer.

Our ideal candidate would have:

  • A strong understanding of class, classism, and their own class identity
  • Experience navigating organizational partnerships and differing power dynamics between organizations
  • Familiarity with student organizing landscape nationally and existing relationships with organizations mobilizing a student base
  • Experience working on issue-based campaigns and doing grassroots and/or major donor fundraising
  • Some fluency in digital tools such as Google Suite, Zoom, organizing databases, Slack, Asana, Hustle, etc.

Location: This is a remote position. During non-pandemic times, 20-30 days a year of travel can be expected for retreats, conferences, and leadership convenings.

Compensation: This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $56,000-$63,000 depending on regional cost of living and additional experience brought to the role. Benefits include 100% employer paid health, vision, and dental insurance; medical and transit flexible spending account; 403(b) retirement plan and an employer contribution after one year of employment; professional development funds; home office/co-working allowance; and annual paid vacation (15 days), sick leave (15 days), and personal days (5 days).
