Academic Coach

Academic Coach Job Description:

  • Work 22 hours per week, primarily 2:00-7:00 PM, Mondays through Thursdays with additional hours on some Saturdays
  • Oversee the success of a cohort of students via academic coaching, connect students with tutoring opportunities (College Track Volunteers, Elevate or UpChieve), assist students in making a plan for credit recovery programming support, outreach, and data analysis
  • Support with virtual academic tutoring (small group and 1:1 settings)
  • Embed and model habits that impact academic achievement (including organization, time management, self­-advocacy, growth mindset, and study habits)
  • Attend onboarding and orientation prior to the start of the summer, fall, and spring sessions
  • Participate in weekly professional development and meetings to discuss student needs, and develop skill to provide targeted supports
  • Meet regularly with Academic Director and participate in regular feedback, including formal and informal observations
  • Complete administrative tasks including, but not limited to: taking attendance, checking student progress via online platforms, entering data, contacting parents/guardians, and working with CT staff.
  • Work with site staff to ensure effective programming 
  • Interact with students and families in a variety of settings (individually, small groups, large groups)
  • Collect, analyze and use data to suggest and create program improvements 
  • Meet regularly with the Academic Affairs Director to discuss student progress
  • Support Academic Affairs Coordinator with the virtual tutoring spaces
  • Assist with capacity building projects as assigned by the Academic Affairs Director

Skills & Experience Required

First and foremost, the Academic Affairs Coach must embrace College Track’s vision and mission for transforming low-income communities into places where college readiness and college graduation are the norms.  Additionally, qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, at minimum
  • Strong facilitation skills and willingness to develop professionally 
  • Passion for and commitment to college access and success
  • Experience working with a diverse population of students in a relevant program area (e.g.tutoring or teaching, college advising, or youth development), preferably with high school students in an academic setting
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in data analysis and visual tracking
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with students and keep them motivated and productive
  • High level of self-awareness, humility, and emotional intelligence
  • Cleared background check and TB test before start date


The ideal candidate may also have the following preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrate experience in providing youth mentorship and/or youth support services
  • Ability to design, plan and promote new and existing events on a regular basis
  • Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in both English and Spanish
  • Proficient with using Google Suite, Zoom & Salesforce data management platforms
