Freelance Writer – Part-Time Contract Position
Equal Justice USA is undertaking a project to refresh a number of its publications as well as create new pieces. All materials will reflect our vision for a new paradigm of justice that replaces our system of punishment with one that delivers.
We seek a talented and seasoned writer who comes to the project with significant professional experience writing about justice issues. The right candidate might be a current or former journalist, an advocate/activist who has worked for or with one of our allies in the movement, or a researcher with a knack for language, to name a few possibilities. They will have a substantial portfolio of work that sits squarely in the justice space.
The freelance writer will take part in several meetings with EJUSA staff, including an orientation to our vision and long-term strategy. They will meet with the specific program teams that pertain to the respective writing assignments and be in steady contact with members of our Communications team. The freelance writer will be organized, ready to meet deadlines, and able to adjust to changes in schedule or priority.
We expect that this project will span 4-6 months. We expect it to begin in late October, but are looking for some flexibility.
EJUSA has 22 extraordinary staff members throughout the country and a small national office in Brooklyn. We’re a diverse, passionate team that loves working together to deliver real change.
EJUSA is committed to full transparency in salary and benefits for all persons the organization hires. Since freelance work can vary widely depending on scope of work and need, we have not included an exact compensation rate. However, like anyone we employ, we commit to compensating the freelance writer’s work in a way that is equitable and honors their valuable work.
